Game Development
Spider Tanks: Cores of Chaos officially went live on December 8, bringing a fully reworked version of the arena shooter to players across mobile and desktop. The new release is now available on Android, iOS, Windows, and Mac, and can be accessed via the Epic Games Store or mobile app stores. This version runs independently of its earlier publisher and is now integrated into Immutable Play, a platform designed to support both web2 and web3-based games.
Spider Tanks Returns with a Clean Slate
To recap, Cores of Chaos is not a minor update to the original Spider Tanks, but a full relaunch built by Dutch studio GAMEDIA. While the basic PvP tank combat gameplay is still in place, almost every other element has been reworked.
There are no entry requirements to start playing. You don't need a wallet, tank NFT, or previous account. Anyone can log in using Immutable Passport, a system that supports social logins like Google or Apple. Once signed in, you can launch the game and jump straight into matches
Updated Features and Gameplay Changes
According to the team, the new version brings new updates across almost every part of the experience. Tank controls have been improved, movement is smoother, and weapons now offer more tactical variation. The game's progression system has also changed. Players unlock new tanks, parts, and weapons by playing matches instead of purchasing or minting them as assets.
Each weapon and tank body now has more defined roles. That means players can mix setups to suit their playstyle, whether that's fast movement, long-range damage, or tanky defense.
Map layouts and hazard elements have been tweaked, with some arenas now including new environmental threats. There are also reports of hidden arena mechanics that add unexpected factors during matches.
A Shift Away from Gala Games
This launch marks a formal break from the game's earlier publisher, Gala Games. First released in 2021, Spider Tanks was one of Gala's early blockchain-based games. Gala handled publishing and blockchain integrations, while GAMEDIA led game development.
But by mid-2023, that relationship had broken down. GAMEDIA claimed that Gala failed to deliver promised support for marketing and publishing. Over time, the studio says it was forced to handle communications, trailers, events, and more without help.
This dispute escalated into legal action. Gala filed a lawsuit attempting to claim ownership of the Spider Tanks IP, but in September 2024, the Central District Court of California dismissed the case due to lack of jurisdiction. That decision allowed GAMEDIA to proceed with full control over the title.
Moving to Immutable
After separating from Gala, GAMEDIA began working with Immutable, an Ethereum-based Layer 2 platform focused on games. The new version of Spider Tanks now runs on Immutable Play, which supports optional blockchain features but does not require them for basic gameplay.
Hints of the new partnership first appeared in August 2025, when Immutable posted a teaser video showing visuals linked to Spider Tanks. A full announcement followed in November, confirming the release date and updated title: Spider Tanks: Cores of Chaos.
Players who want to explore blockchain elements can now complete quests via Immutable Play. These quests award Immutable Gems, which can be used for the weekly draw.
No Support for Gala-Based Assets
One of the notable changes is that Gala-linked NFTs, tank parts, and tokens like $SILK are not supported in this new version. According to GAMEDIA, these assets were created and managed by Gala Games, and cannot legally or technically be used within Cores of Chaos.
The team explained that even if it were possible to import those items, doing so could risk damaging the economic balance of the new version. Because of that, the developers have started fresh.
Still, GAMEDIA has shared that it plans to recognize original players in other ways. According to a Discord post from the team, OG players may receive cosmetic items or other non-blockchain perks that highlight their support of the original title. These recognitions will start small but may expand once the game stabilizes.
How to Access Spider Tanks: Cores of Chaos
Players can download the game directly through major storefronts:
Once installed, players can log in using Immutable Passport, which supports standard social login options. Quests are also available through Immutable Play, where progress is tracked and rewards are earned automatically through your account.
Community and Communication Channels
The main hub for players is the official Discord server, where you can connect with other players, report bugs, or stay up to date on game news. Updates are also shared on X through GAMEDIA's official account. There's no published roadmap yet, but the developers have hinted at ongoing updates shaped by community feedback. These may include new tanks, game modes, or limited-time events.
Looking at the Road Ahead
Spider Tanks: Cores of Chaos enters a gaming space where many web3 projects are still searching for balance between traditional play and onchain integrations. By offering full cross-platform access and optional blockchain tools, GAMEDIA appears to be focusing first on player access and performance.
Whether the game expands into deeper features or not may depend on how it performs over the coming months. For now, Spider Tanks: Cores of Chaos is available across major platforms and can be played with or without using any web3 features.
