A Game About Digging a Hole, which is exactly what it sounds like, has hit a surprising sales goal, surpassing one million copies sold nearly six months after its release on Steam. The gameplay loop of A Game About Digging a Hole is simplistic, and clearly quite addictive, considering the number of people who have picked it up and the positive reviews they've left.

Steam's cumulative user reviews for A Game About Digging a Hole have it sitting in the "Very Positive" category, with 89 percent of the more than 14,000 players who have left a review giving it their approval. While certainly not hitting blockbuster numbers, it's still managing peaks of more than 300 concurrent players within the last week, and when it was released in early February, managed to make its way near the top of Steam's most popular new games list.

In a recent post on the game's community page on Steam, one-person developer DoubleBee expressed thanks to everyone who has played A Game About Digging a Hole, noting that their support has recently helped the game to reach one million units sold. Despite several copycat games that have emerged since its initial success, many fans believe A Game About Digging a Hole to be one of the best sandbox games on Steam, and the announcement has been met with a lot of congratulations from its most loyal fans.

While the game has seen massive success on Steam, DoubleBee also announced that the game is branching out to new platforms, as it is now available on iOS and Android devices through the App Store and Google Play Store, respectively. Additionally, the developer's note states that an external team is working on porting the game to other, unspecified platforms. That announcement has sparked a little dismay among players who have already collected all of A Game About Digging a Hole's achievements and are worried that no new content will be coming, but the majority of fans seem to be reveling in the game's success and waiting to see where the game goes next.

As for what's next for DoubleBee, they're currently sticking with their simplistic naming conventions and working on a solarpunk game called Solarpunk. Planned for release sometime before the end of 2025, Solarpunk will be a peaceful open-world survival crafting game that will let players grow food, build gadgets, and use an airship to explore islands in the sky alone or with friends. There's no firm release date yet, but alpha/beta testing is expected to start soon.
