Game Development
One Fortnite player created their own design that would allow Epic Games to add further distinction between regular chests and rare chests for those who play with the "Visualize Sound Effects" setting turned on in the popular battle royale. Epic Games recently launched Chapter 6 Season 3 of Fortnite, which has brought iconic DC superheroes like Robin and Superman to both the island and the battle pass.
While superheroes may have run away with the battle pass for Chapter 6 Season 3, dads seem to have taken over Fortnite's Item Shop over Father's Day weekend. Epic Games recently revealed major collaborations with Fox shows like King of the Hill, Bob's Burgers, and Family Guy. Over the weekend of June 15, Fortnite added an "Animated Dads" section to the Item Shop, which contained cosmetic bundles for Hank Hill, Bob Belcher, and Cleveland Brown.
In a recent post on Reddit, Certain_Ad_8556 suggested that Epic Games should improve the way rare chests are displayed with "Visualize Sound Effects" turned on. The ability to see visual cues for sound effects is one of Fortnite's optional settings, and it has proven to be useful for a wide variety of players. Some gamers are hearing impaired, and the setting allows them to pick up on cues that would normally be given to players through sound effects. Meanwhile, other fans may play with their sound lowered or off for various reasons. Some gamers also enjoy having more visual cues on their screen to ensure they don't miss anything while playing.
Fortnite Could Use Different Colors to Improve Visual Cues
The image that was shared showed a regular chest highlighted with a yellow glow on the screen, while a rare chest triggered a deep orange glow. While many players seemed to like the visual distinction, several people suggested that the rare chests should trigger a blue glow, as they have a similar hue. One person even pointed out that there had been more of a visual distinction at one point, but said Epic Games had done away with it for an unknown reason. Some people disagreed with Certain_Ad_8556's suggestion completely, comparing the "Visualize Sound Effects" setting to wall hacks in Fortnite. They stated that adding such a visual distinction would buff a setting they already feel is problematic.
Of course, using the "Visualize Sound Effects" setting isn't the same as using wall hacks or cheating in Fortnite. As an official setting, "Visualize Sound Effects" is available to everyone, and it simply offers an alternate way to receive information that would otherwise be signified through audio cues. With a whole new season to enjoy and even more content on the way, many fans are feeling optimistic about the future of Fortnite.
