Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of 2K, has officially paused development of the Nintendo Switch 2 version of Borderlands 4, the company confirmed during its Q3 FY2026 earnings presentation.
The Switch 2 port was initially scheduled to launch on October 3, 2025, shortly after the game’s September 12 release on other platforms. However, the port was indefinitely delayed on September 23, and the latest earnings call makes it clear that the project is no longer an active priority. Speaking to Variety, Take-Two acknowledged the decision, stating:
“We made the difficult decision to pause development on that SKU. Our focus continues to be delivering quality post-launch content for players and ongoing improvements to optimize the game.”
The publisher also emphasized that it is continuing to work closely with Nintendo, while shifting attention to upcoming releases such as PGA Tour 2K25 and WWE 2K26, both planned for the Switch 2 platform.
Earlier, Gearbox Software had explained that the delay was due to the need for additional development and polish, as well as a desire to better align the release with cross-save functionality. As recently as November 6, 2025, during Take-Two’s Q2 earnings call, the Switch 2 version of Borderlands 4 was still listed with a TBA release date.
The absence of any mention in the Q3 presentation, combined with Take-Two’s latest comments, strongly suggests that a Switch 2 release—if it happens at all—won’t be coming anytime soon. The game’s current post-launch roadmap focuses on paid and free story DLC, raid bosses, and ongoing content updates, with no reference to additional platform ports.
Meanwhile, Take-Two reaffirmed confidence in its broader release pipeline, particularly Grand Theft Auto VI, which is now scheduled for November 2026. Rockstar Games is expected to begin marketing the highly anticipated title this summer. During the earnings presentation, Take-Two also highlighted the enduring success of Grand Theft Auto V, which has now surpassed 225 million units sold since its original 2013 launch.
