Yakuza Kiwami 3 Revealed with a New Trailer

During the RGG Summit 2025, developer Ryu Ga Gotoku unveiled the official trailer for Yakuza Kiwami 3, which will be a full remake of Yakuza 3 and will feature updated graphics and gameplay plus a new story. Following the release of Yakuza Kiwami in 2016 and Yakuza Kiwami 2 in 2017, audiences have been hoping for Yakuza 3 to receive the same updated treatment, and Ryu Ga Gotoku has finally made those wishes a reality.

The original Yakuza 3 was released in 2010 for the PlayStation 3 and followed the story of protagonist Kazuma Kiryu as he defends his orphanage from enemies attempting a shady land grab. While it was not the most popular title in the Yakuza video game series at launch, largely due to its clunky fight mechanics and lack of side quests, the upcoming remake of Yakuza 3 looks to introduce much-needed quality of life changes to bring the game up to speed with the franchise's newer entries.

Yakuza Kiwami 3 Official Trailer and Dark Ties Side Story

As part of a pre-Tokyo Game Show 2025 presentation, Ryu Ga Gotoku officially announced Yakuza Kiwami 3 with a first-look trailer. In the trailer, audiences get a look at the enhanced graphics and even snippets of gameplay, both of which are reminiscent of other Yakuza game releases, such as Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii and Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth. Fans were also treated to an extra surprise with the reveal of a new side story called Dark Ties, which will follow the origins of Yoshitaka Mine. While online discussions have included criticism of certain changes to character models, the overall updated appearance to the game and new Mine storyline have been met with resounding celebrations.

The Yakuza series has continued to surprise both veteran and first-time fans, with the return of iconic characters and storylines blended with innovative gameplay updates and immersive graphics. Whether Yakuza Kiwami 3 will follow in the footsteps of the other Yakuza video game remakes or if it will suffer the same issues as its original iteration remains to be seen. But if the previous Yakuza Kiwami entries and other modern releases are anything to go by, audiences may be in for a memorable new experience with a beloved character and story.
