Game Development
A gaming insider has provided a new leak outlining the jaw-dropping budget Xbox is spending on Marvel’s Blade game. Announced during The Game Awards 2023, Marvel’s Blade is being developed by Arkane Studios and published by Indiana Jones and the Great Circle’s Bethesda Softworks. Based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name, the game will feature an original narrative following Eric Brooks fighting against an invasion in Paris.
Of course, Marvel’s standalone project isn’t the only game featuring the vampire hunter. A new leak recently teased Blade’s team-up ability in Marvel Rivals, NetEase Games’ hero shooter that’s banked tremendous success since its late 2024 launch. Blade was added as a season 3 Duelist, joining a host of other heroes in the same role, including Wolverine, The Punisher, Black Widow, Scarlet Witch, Spider-Man, and many more.
Posted on Twitter, insider bogorad222 provided a screenshot from the government of France sourced by IanFich, which highlights the budget for Marvel’s Blade. The report states Xbox is spending more than 94 million euros (approximately $109 million) on the project, which is an eye-watering amount. The report also suggested that the game was targeting a 2026 release, stating the expenditure was allocated for development between 2023 and 2026. The budget leak comes on the heels of a disappointing update for Marvel’s Blade, referring to the game’s late production start, but if it promises to be anything to the standard of Insomniac Games’ Marvel’s Spider-Man series, fans won’t mind waiting.

Outside video games, the character of Blade has been stuck in development hell within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, rebooting the character within the franchise after Wesley Snipes’ non-canon run between 1998 and 2004. Actor Mahershala Ali recently revealed he’s out of the loop with Blade’s live-action film, four years after his debut in Eternals’ post-credits scene alongside Kit Harington’s Dane Whitman, who was teased to become Black Knight further down the line.
After a wave of game cancellations, including Monolith Productions’ Wonder Woman title and Cliffhanger Games' Black Panther project, comic book fans still have a litany of superhero games actively in development to look forward to. One of the anticipated projects is the action-adventure Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra, from developer Skydance New Media and publisher Plaion, which will focus on characters Steve Rogers / Captain America, Azzuri / Black Panther, Howling Commandos’ Gabriel Jones, and Wakandan spy Nanali, and it’s scheduled for a 2026 release.
