Unity has officially announced that Unity 7 will enter beta in December 2026, with a full release planned for Q1 2027. Revealed during Unite Seoul, the new engine is designed as a direct continuation of Unity 6, allowing developers to transition without the traditional challenges of major engine upgrades.
According to Unity, the underlying architecture remains unchanged, enabling studios to adopt Unity 7 while preserving existing workflows and project compatibility. The update introduces a modern CoreCLR foundation, a new command-line interface (CLI), and a public API that allows artists, producers, and developers to validate assets and collaborate using their preferred tools without requiring full access to the Unity Editor.
Unity 7 also expands its AI capabilities with support for AI coding agents through a free Model Context Protocol (MCP). However, the company emphasized that AI features are entirely optional, giving studios full control over whether they integrate AI into their production pipelines.
On the graphics side, Unity 7 introduces Surface Cache Global Illumination, delivering more realistic lighting and improved visual fidelity across platforms, from high-end PCs to mobile devices. AI-assisted graphics optimization further helps developers scale performance efficiently across different hardware.
The engine also includes new monetization and live operations features, such as direct-to-consumer in-app purchases, no-code web shops, unified product catalogs, and deeper integration with Unity Vector for AI-powered insights.
Unity says the goal of Unity 7 is to help developers adopt new technologies without disrupting existing production, making it easier for teams of all sizes to build and ship games faster.
