Star Fox Switch 2 Exclusive Finally Confirmed With a Surprising Twist

Nintendo has officially revealed a brand-new entry in the legendary Star Fox franchise after months of speculation and fan rumors. The upcoming title, simply called Star Fox, is set to launch exclusively on the Nintendo Switch 2 on June 25, 2026. However, the announcement came with an unexpected surprise — instead of being a completely new installment, the game is a modern remake of the iconic Star Fox 64.

The reveal instantly sparked excitement across the gaming community, especially after the franchise recently returned to the spotlight with a cameo in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. With renewed interest surrounding Fox McCloud and his team, Nintendo finally confirmed that the beloved space combat series is making a major comeback for the next-generation console.

The newly released trailer showcased upgraded graphics, enhanced cinematic cutscenes, and refreshed voice acting while preserving the classic mission structure fans remember from Star Fox 64. Players will once again join Fox, Falco, Peppy, and Slippy in their battle to protect the Lylat system from the villainous Andross.

One of the biggest additions is the introduction of online PvP multiplayer through a new Battle Mode. Players can compete as Team Star Fox or Team Star Wolf in fast-paced aerial combat matches. Nintendo also revealed support for the Switch 2’s advanced mouse-style controls, allowing more precise aiming mechanics during gameplay.

The remake also introduces expanded co-op gameplay, in which one player pilots the vehicle while another controls weapons with separate Joy-Cons. Classic vehicles like the Arwing, Landmaster, and Blue-Marine submarine are all returning with enhanced visuals and smoother controls.

For longtime fans, Nintendo included nostalgic features such as compatibility with the Nintendo Switch Online N64 controller and replayable Challenge Modes featuring additional objectives. Another standout feature is the new AR GameChat filter, which lets players transform into Star Fox characters using facial tracking through a compatible USB camera.

Although some fans hoped for a completely original sequel, the remake appears to offer enough modern upgrades and new gameplay systems to attract both longtime followers and newcomers alike. With its blend of nostalgia and fresh multiplayer features, Star Fox could become one of the most talked-about Switch 2 releases of 2026.
