As Nintendo continues expanding its library of mature and blockbuster titles, port specialist Virtuos has expressed strong interest in bringing more Rockstar Games classics to the platform. The studio, which successfully handled the Nintendo Switch version of L.A. Noire in 2017, says it would welcome the chance to work on major titles like Grand Theft Auto 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 for Nintendo systems.

For years, Nintendo consoles were often overlooked when it came to M-rated games, with many major Rockstar releases skipping platforms like the Wii and Wii U entirely. However, the success of the Nintendo Switch changed that perception. Games such as Red Dead Redemption and Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition eventually made their way to the handheld console, proving there is strong demand from Nintendo players for Rockstar’s iconic franchises.

Speaking with Pocket Tactics, Virtuos reflected on its experience porting L.A. Noire and revealed that the studio is eager to adapt more Rockstar titles for Nintendo hardware if given the opportunity. While rumors of Red Dead Redemption 2 arriving on a potential Switch 2 continue to circulate, no official confirmation has been made by Rockstar.

Bringing games like GTA 5 to Nintendo platforms could open the door to an even wider audience. Despite already selling over 200 million copies worldwide, a Nintendo release could further extend the game’s lifespan and profitability. However, technical limitations remain a major question, especially for the original Switch hardware. More demanding titles such as Red Dead Redemption 2 may require more powerful next-generation Nintendo systems to run smoothly.

Although Virtuos is interested in handling these ports, the final decision rests entirely with Rockstar Games. Other studios, including Double Eleven, have previously worked on Rockstar ports for Nintendo platforms, meaning there is no guarantee Virtuos would ultimately lead development.

Still, the growing relationship between Rockstar and Nintendo marks a significant shift from previous console generations. With even rumors of GTA 6 potentially appearing on a future Switch successor, fans are hopeful that more Rockstar experiences could eventually arrive on Nintendo hardware. For now, players can only wait for official announcements from Rockstar.
