Roblox Introduces AI-Powered Game Creation Directly on Mobile

Roblox is making game creation more accessible with a new AI-powered feature that allows users to build playable experiences directly from their mobile devices, without traditional programming skills.

The new Build feature lets creators describe a game using a simple text prompt, with Roblox's AI systems generating an initial playable experience that can then be customized, tested, and shared.

Roblox Wants Anyone to Become a Game Creator

With Build, users can enter prompts such as “Create a cozy adventure game set in a dense forest” and receive a starting version of the experience.

According to Roblox, its system combines multiple AI models, including proprietary and open-source technologies, to handle different elements of development. These include gameplay mechanics, environments, characters, visual styles, sound, and other game components.

The idea is to significantly reduce the technical barrier traditionally associated with game development. Instead of starting with programming, modeling, or complex development tools, creators can begin with an idea and use AI to turn it into a playable foundation.

AI Game Creation Raises Quality Concerns

Roblox's move comes as major technology companies increasingly explore AI-assisted game creation. However, the rapid growth of generative game development has also created concerns about the potential flood of low-effort or repetitive content.

Build Will Begin Public Testing

Roblox plans to begin public alpha testing of Build on July 28, initially for verified users aged nine and above in New Zealand.

Users aged 16 and older will also be able to publish their creations globally. Roblox plans to offer a free version alongside paid options.

The company is also developing additional AI tools designed to assist creators with playtesting, analytics, 3D asset generation, and scene creation.

One upcoming technology is designed to generate complete, editable, and playable 3D environments from a single text prompt, potentially pushing Roblox further toward an AI-assisted development ecosystem.

Roblox Is Expanding Beyond AI Game Generation

Build is part of a broader AI strategy at Roblox. The platform is already developing an AI foundation model for generating 3D assets and an AI chatbot designed to assist developers throughout the creation process.

The company is now moving toward a model where AI could support almost every stage of development, from the initial concept and asset creation to testing, analytics, and iteration.
