Take-Two CEO Defends Red Dead Online Despite Fans Declaring It “Dead” in 2022

Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick recently shared positive comments about Red Dead Online, even though many players believe the game was abandoned years ago.

Back in 2022, frustrated fans even held an in-game “funeral” for Red Dead Online after the title went more than a year without receiving any major content updates. Since then, the game has remained mostly inactive, with only small updates arriving occasionally.

During an interview, Zelnick rejected the idea that Red Dead Online was a missed opportunity. He pointed to the massive success of the Red Dead Redemption 2 franchise, which has sold millions of copies worldwide. According to him, the online mode was also highly successful and maintained a strong player base for a long time.

Zelnick also praised the overall quality of the game, saying he still finds Red Dead Redemption 2 visually impressive and enjoyable to play, even nearly eight years after release. However, many fans still feel disappointed that support for Red Dead Online slowed down so quickly compared to Grand Theft Auto Online.

While GTA Online continues receiving major updates, businesses, missions, and new content after more than a decade, Red Dead Online only received around three years of major support following its 2018 launch. Many players believe Rockstar shifted its full attention toward the GTA franchise because of its enormous financial success.

For now, there is still no official confirmation about a major comeback or future expansion for Red Dead Online. With Grand Theft Auto VI becoming Rockstar’s main priority, fans of Red Dead Online continue hoping the franchise will eventually receive renewed support in the future.
