God of War fans can relax—Kratos isn’t going anywhere. Although the newly announced *God of War Laufey* shifts the spotlight to Faye, Santa Monica Studio has confirmed that the legendary Ghost of Sparta will continue to play a major role in future entries of the franchise.
The game was officially unveiled during the June 2 State of Play presentation, giving players their first look at Faye’s journey through the mysterious realm known as the Everywhen. Unlike previous installments, *God of War Laufey* places Kratos’ late wife at the center of the story as she battles powerful gods from multiple mythologies while fighting to protect a promise she made to Kratos and Atreus before her death.
While the reveal generated excitement, some fans were concerned about Kratos stepping away from the lead role. Addressing those concerns, God of War creative director Cory Barlog reassured players that Kratos remains a core part of the franchise’s future.
According to Barlog, *God of War Laufey* is an opportunity to explore new characters and stories within the universe, but it does not signal the end of Kratos’ journey. He emphasized that Santa Monica Studio still has plenty of stories left to tell featuring the iconic warrior.
Game director Ariel Lawrence also shared her surprise upon first learning that the project would focus on Faye rather than Kratos. Having expected to continue developing stories centered around the Spartan hero, Lawrence admitted the shift was unexpected. However, she echoed Barlog’s comments and confirmed that Kratos’ story is far from finished.
Although the studio has not revealed details about future God of War projects, Kratos is already expected to return in the rumored *God of War Trilogy Remake*, which is reportedly being developed for PlayStation 5. The collection is said to revisit Kratos’ original battles against the Olympian gods and the monsters of Greek mythology.
Beyond gaming, the God of War universe is also expanding with an upcoming television adaptation. An Amazon Prime Video series based on the franchise is currently in development and is expected to feature Kratos, Atreus, and several characters from Norse mythology.
For now, *God of War Laufey* offers fans a fresh perspective on the franchise through Faye’s story. But according to Santa Monica Studio, the saga of Kratos is far from over, and the Spartan legend will eventually return to the spotlight once again.
