Grounded 2 is officially available on PlayStation 5, bringing Obsidian Entertainment’s backyard survival adventure to a new audience after previously being limited to PC and Xbox Series X|S.

The sequel remains in Early Access, but the PS5 launch marks a major expansion for the game. PlayStation players can also join friends across Xbox and PC thanks to crossplay support, making the tiny survival world more accessible than ever.

Grounded 2 Expands Its Survival Playground

The original Grounded gained attention by putting a familiar survival-crafting formula into an unusual setting: a backyard where players are reduced to the size of insects.

Grounded 2 builds on that concept with a larger world, new creatures, expanded exploration, and additional survival mechanics. Its latest launch also arrives alongside the Into the Abyss update, which is currently the game's biggest content update.

The update opens up the previously inaccessible pond in Brookhollow Park, allowing players to explore both above and below the water.

Into the Abyss Adds Underwater Exploration

The new pond introduces several new environments and progression opportunities, including underwater areas, the Mountains, and the Bayou.

Players can now use diving suits to remain underwater for longer periods and explore locations that were previously unreachable. However, the pond is far from safe.

Returning creatures such as koi fish and diving bell spiders can pose a threat, while new dangers await beneath the surface.

The update also introduces the Toe-biter, a new amphibious Buggy capable of traveling across both land and water. The vehicle gives players a faster way to explore the expanded environment and escape dangerous encounters.

Crossplay Connects PS5, Xbox, and PC Players

One of the biggest advantages of the PS5 launch is crossplay.

Players across supported platforms can join the same multiplayer sessions, allowing friends on PlayStation to team up with players on Xbox and PC.

For a survival game built around exploration, crafting, combat, and cooperative progression, this wider multiplayer ecosystem could significantly increase the game's long-term player base.

Early Access Continues

The PS5 launch does not represent the final version of Grounded 2. Obsidian is continuing development alongside its community, with additional areas, creatures, systems, and gameplay improvements expected over time.

That makes the current launch more of a new milestone than an endpoint for the sequel.

The Into the Abyss update gives both newcomers and existing players a substantial reason to return, particularly with the addition of underwater exploration and new traversal options.

Grounded 2's continued development also demonstrates the value of Early Access for large-scale survival games. Developers can introduce new systems, observe how players interact with them, and gradually expand the experience based on real-world feedback.

With its PS5 debut, crossplay support, and biggest update yet, Grounded 2 is now positioned to reach a much broader audience while continuing to evolve its unusual take on open-world survival gaming.
