Fortnite Adds New Gem Sprites During Special Events This Week

Fortnite is expanding its growing Sprite collection with several new Gem variants arriving during a week of limited-time events focused on discovering, upgrading, and collecting the creatures.

Sprites have become an important part of Fortnite’s current Runners season, functioning as collectible companions that provide passive abilities and additional progression opportunities during matches.

Players can take Sprites to an Extraction Site to permanently add them to their collection. Once collected, Sprite Dust can be used to summon them in future matches. Leveling up a Sprite improves its passive ability and the quality of loot it can provide, while eliminations and surviving Storm phases can further strengthen its progression.

New Gem Sprites Arrive

Epic Games announced the week's Sprite event schedule on August 2, with several activities designed to increase Sprite encounters and progression.

The new Gem Sprite lineup includes:

• Gem Water
• Gem Earth
• Gem Demon
• Gem Duck
• Gem Aura
• Gem Zero Point
• Gem Grim

The schedule began with Mastery Monday on August 3, increasing the appearance rates of Legendary and Mythic Sprites while providing players with double Sprite leveling speed and additional Sprite Dust.

Peely Hours followed on August 4 and 5, increasing the appearance rates of selected Sprite variants. New Sprite Day on August 6 introduced the latest Gem variants, while Gem Hours on August 8 will give players another opportunity to find the crystalline creatures.

A Gem Llama Sprite had previously been introduced on July 30, bringing the overall Gem collection to eight variants. Earlier reports had suggested that Gem Punk could also join the lineup, but it does not appear to be part of the final release.

Gem Sprites Offer More Than Visual Changes

The new Gem variants are not simply cosmetic additions. Fortnite's Gem Sprites also provide a gameplay benefit by reducing fall damage by 30%.

While the effect may have limited impact during standard matches, it could prove useful when navigating elevated areas, mountainous terrain, or high-ground encounters.

Finding specific Gem Sprites can also require players to explore different areas of the map. Gem Water can appear around harbors and shorelines, while Gem Earth is associated with forested areas. Gem Aura favors mountainous locations, while Gem Duck can be found inside the Mogul Vault.

Gem Demon, Gem Grim, and Gem Zero Point are connected to Sprite Chests, with Gem Zero Point also appearing in Relic Chests. These location-specific requirements could make certain variants more difficult for collectors to obtain.

Sprite Collection Continues to Expand

The continued introduction of new variants shows how Epic Games is expanding Sprites beyond temporary match items. Their collection system, progression mechanics, different rarities, alternate designs, and recurring events give players additional goals outside the traditional Victory Royale.

With Gem Hours scheduled for August 8, players still have another opportunity to track down the newest variants and complete more of their Sprite collection.
