Today, we’ve had the Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 2 update! A major change to the game. Coming after the last season became the third longest we’d ever seen, the Fortnite patch notes have been eagerly awaited. But what’s changed so far this season? It’s supposed to be one of the bigger seasonal refreshes. Ditching some parts of Chapter 7 that haven’t worked, and going for something new.
The new Fortnite season has some big changes. Creative new guns, whole new mechanics, POI changes. Plus, AI slop characters in the item shop. But Fortnite C7 S2 has a lot of content to actually play.
The big Fortnite season theme for C7 S2 is Rivalry. This is a concept we’re seeing in the story of the game. But also in-game, with a new version of bounty boards factoring into gameplay. Along with new weapons which even reference some of the older content from Save the World. It’s not all bright changes though. With the awaited V-Buck price changes making quite a big difference to how much things cost in Fortnite.
This is what’s changed with the Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 2 patch notes:
All Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 2 Changes
Choose a Team
When you first jump into Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 2, you’ll need to choose a team! This time it’s between the Foundation and the Ice King. at the end, the winning team gets an exclusive style. It unlocks for all Battle Pass holders but the teams decide which style is featured.
New Rivalry Feature
The key new gameplay change in the Fortnite patch notes is the Rivalry mechanic. This will match two players in the game up and make them rivals. It’s a feature which is the center of the current Fortnite season. It’s essientally a bounty board though. Like the Dragon Ball ones we’ve seen two players get paired up to fight. Only, it’s mandatory.
The Rivalry feature also incudes a leaderboard. As you win Rivalaries, you’ll climb the leaderboard. at the end of the seaon there’s prices like consoles, PC hardware, and more.
Weapons
We’re expecting some huge changes to the best Fortnite weapons to come with the release of the Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 2 update. These are the fresh weapons we know about so far:
Super Shredder Shotgun – This is coming with the Fortnite patch notes today! The Super Shredder is from the Save the World. Where it worked as a hybrid Shotgun-Sniper. This could be a real menace.
Mythic Goldfish – Making a return is the Mythic Goldfish. This has been in Reload and it’s coming back to BR.
Skyline Deployer – A new mobility tool that moves you up into the sky suddenly.
Rift Gun – A new weapon coming which launches rifts. Like the Rift Launcher in C6 S2.
Chaos Reload Shotgun – New Shotgun
Ice King’s Gauntlets – New version of the Nitro Fists. Coming later in the season.
Vector 7 DMR – New long-range rifle.
Map Changes
Next is the map changes which is refreshing the Chapter 7 Season 1 map. We might have only had 1 season here, but thanks to the delays it has been around a while already. These are the big changes we’ve seen to the new map:
Polar Peak – A big ice castle is here!
New biomes – The blander map is gone. Now we’ve got a bunch of separate biomes, like a snow area.
Fortnite C7 S2 Battle Pass
The next major change is the brand new Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 2 Battle Pass. This features a ton of new skins which Epic has already shown off. Including quite a well-designed Bugs Bunny skin. It’s great all the cell shaded and Fortnite anime skins are so high quality now.
The big downside is the cost. it’s 800 V-Bucks, so less. But you get no bonus V-Bucks. Even if you grind up to 200, you just get the price back. There’s no spare to encourage item shop purchases anymore.
Esports Returns with the Fortnite C7 S2 Update
One element we’ve been looking forward to for ages is the return of major Fortnite esports events. The FNCS is finally back after multiple seasons off. Plus, it’s going through an accelerated time scale this time around. We’re getting more FNCS events and sooner.
The key tournaments happening this year include the FNCS finals, but also cash cups held frequently. There will even be more console events with cash and on offer. It’ll be interesting to see how the weapons in the Fortnite patch notes play in these events.
V-Buck Prices are Increasing
Last is maybe the most controversial part of the current Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 2 update. The V-Buck prices getting hiked up. It’ll cost more, and you’ll get less in Fortnite C7 S2.
There’s no way around these changes, they’re frustrating. What’s more annoying is Epic’s blatant lies about the reasoning, “bills”. Anyway, the prices are going up and you’ll get less for your money too. Epic is giving content creators an even bigger slice of that money for the initial few days too.
A blatant attempt to try and get Fortnite streamers to leverage their audiences into supporting the new Battle Pass if more players are skipping it thanks to these changes. Despite it blatantly contradicting their explanation that prices are going up because costs have gone up.
Those are the big changes with the Fortnite update today. Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 2 is a brand new season, and hopefully one which will refresh the game’s meta a bit. It’ll be great to see the return of competitive in Fortnite C7 S2 too. The V-Bucks changes, AI skins, and other things are casting a pretty major shadow over all that right now though.
