Final Fantasy 14 players can now send a wider range of Online Store items to friends, as Square Enix lifts several gifting restrictions that were originally introduced nearly four years ago.

These limitations were first implemented to combat real-money trading (RMT) and fraudulent purchases. As a result, only a small selection of items could previously be gifted. Now, with the latest update effective April 2, Square Enix has significantly expanded the list of eligible items.

Players can use the “Buy for a Friend” option to gift various cosmetics directly through the Online Store. Newly eligible items include mounts and minions (single-character use), emotes, orchestrion rolls, face paint, chocobo barding, and fashion accessories. Seasonal items from past events, like Hatching-Tide, can also now be shared with friends.

However, some restrictions still remain. Account-wide mounts are not eligible for gifting at this time.

The original restrictions date back to October 2022, following the Endwalker expansion’s Patch 6.2. Square Enix introduced them to prevent misuse, including the resale of item codes on third-party websites and fraudulent purchases using stolen payment details. Unlike before, items are no longer distributed as redeemable codes and can only be used by the buyer or sent directly to a friend via in-game systems.

Alongside these changes, April is shaping up to be a busy month for Final Fantasy 14 players. The Moogle Treasure Trove event is currently underway and will run until April 28, offering players a chance to earn rare rewards.

Looking ahead, Patch 7.5, titled Trail to the Heavens, is set to release on April 28, with its story continuing in Patch 7.56 later this year. Additionally, the 2026 North American FanFest will take place on April 24–25 in Anaheim, California.

With new gifting features and multiple events lined up, Final Fantasy 14 fans have plenty to look forward to this month.
