IO Interactive has officially unveiled the first 13 minutes of 007: First Light, giving fans an exciting early look at the highly anticipated stealth-action adventure. The newly released gameplay footage introduces a younger version of James Bond and showcases the game’s cinematic opening, survival moments, and stealth-focused gameplay mechanics.
Set shortly after Bond joins MI6, 007: First Light explores the origin story of the legendary spy as he works toward earning his iconic 00 status. The preview begins with Bond and a squad of agents investigating a mysterious heat signature before their helicopter is suddenly attacked and crashes onto a remote island. Players then guide Bond through the dangerous environment, regroup with allies, and infiltrate a hostile enemy base using stealth and tactical movement.
The game is scheduled to launch on May 27 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, with early access available for players who pre-ordered the title. The reveal has already generated major excitement among fans eager to see James Bond return to the gaming world after more than a decade since 007 Legends released in 2012.
One of the standout features in First Light is the new “Instinct” mechanic, designed to reflect Bond’s intelligence, instincts, and quick thinking during high-pressure situations. Instead of a traditional New Game Plus mode, the game will feature Tactical Challenges that encourage players to replay missions using different strategies and approaches. Reports also suggest that the main campaign will offer around 20 hours of story-driven gameplay.
Beyond its gameplay innovations, 007: First Light introduces a fresh direction for the Bond franchise. The game presents a completely original interpretation of James Bond, separate from previous film adaptations and not directly tied to Ian Fleming’s novels. Players will encounter brand-new villains alongside reimagined versions of classic characters such as M and Miss Moneypenny.
The strong early reception surrounding 007: First Light is already raising hopes for the future of James Bond games. IO Interactive has also confirmed that the game will arrive on Nintendo Switch 2 before the end of 2026, while the studio has hinted that a sequel could happen if the game performs successfully after launch.
